Parking Tips
In General, these are the easiest classes to park near the Chestnut School.
Saturday morning 7:00am. The Friday night crowd has left the Marina. All the parking spaces are empty. Class is done by 8:30 am. You’re gone before parking meters start at 9:00 am!
Sunday morning 8:00 am. The bar crowd is gone and no parking meters on Sundays. Parking fills up fast around 9 am.
Tuesday morning 8:30 am. Street cleaning is from 6 am to 8 am so there will be plenty of open spaces right in front of the school.
3:00 pm class Monday - Thursday. Always seems to be open spots at this time before bar crowd arrives.
Tips for a Better Yoga Class
Have your big meal after class.
Come on an empty stomach. Have a navel orange before class if you have to eat something.
Don’t get frustrated...(take the pressure off yourself !)
...if you fall out of postures
... if you’re not good at certain postures in the beginning - Why should you be, you’ve never done them before?
...if you feel nauseated or dizzy - when this happens just sit down on your knees, breathe through your nose, slow your breathing down, and wait for a posture or two before continuing. The feeling will pass...which is totally great.
Do more yoga!
Yoga is not exercise and it may be practiced everyday. YOU CANNOT DO TOO MUCH YOGA. You will always leave the class with more energy than you had when you started class. How cool is that? We have so many students who practice everyday and even some who practice twice a day every day. You will notice who they are in the room because they look like superhuman physical immortals.
The more frequently you practice the faster you improve.
About the water...
If you eat a lot of cooked food and meat, drink lots of water throughout the day before and after class.
When Mary started practicing this yoga 24 years ago there was no water or hand towels in the room. Yoga mats didn’t even exist.
Mary and her teachers do not drink water while taking or teaching class...EVER!
When you take class at Global Yoga you will notice that there are very few water bottles in the room. Usually, the only people with water bottles in the room are people who are dropping in from other schools or new students who just happened to bring them.
Every now and then we actually have a class where there are no water bottles in the room and we milestone that date.
Think about it...what part of asana or savasana is reaching over and grabbing a bottle of water and snorting it down in the middle of class anyway?
Nobody is going to yell at you if you do drink water in class. You might even be inspired to not drink anymore.
The discipline and energy of your yoga practice is very high and phenomenal when you practice without drinking water in class.
